Bartholomews Agri Foods looks to Scorpion for power protection

To protect its business against prolonged power cuts, agricultural food supplier Bartholomews Agri Foods commissioned Scorpion Power Systems to install a standby generator system. Scorpion carried out the work as a complete turnkey operation comprising consultancy, design, all electrical and cabling work, installation and commissioning.

Agri Foods is one of the UK’s top-10 suppliers of seed, fertilisers and crop-protection products — as well as one of the country’s biggest crop marketers. It has an annual turnover of £45 million.

The system is at the company’s Chichester headquarters and supports the offices, feed mill, seed mill and three warehouses.

Following a site survey, Scorpion specified a 415 kVA diesel generator with automatic mains failure and weatherpooof and acoustic canopy.

This generator is specifically designed for the long-term protection of critical and sensitive equipment. A power failure is recognised by the auto-mains failure panel, and the generator steps in to provide an alternative power supply.

When mains electricity returns, the failure panel will monitor the supply until it is stable before shutting down the generator.
