30-year-old solar thermal heating for the swimming pool of a girls’ school in Staffordshire has been replaced with new Buderus equipment.

The 30-year-old solar-thermal system serving the swimming pool of Abbots Bromley School for Girls has been replaced with 32 Buderus panels. The previous installation was one of the earliest large-scale installations in the country, but had become outdated and inefficient and suffered panel damage and pipework deterioration over the years.

The new system heats the in- door pool and provides hot-water for showers and washbasins.

Vale Heating and Plumbing of Pershore installed the panels in two fields of 16 panels each. The flat-plate SKS 4.0 collectors were installed using the Buderus in-roof mounting system to provide an unobtrusive and stylish finish.

Brian Marshall of Vale says, ‘We were particularly impressed with the Buderus solar thermal system because it proved to be simple to install as an in-roof installation, thanks in part to the quick-fit socket connections that linked each panel without the use for tools.

The solar system in this installation met the usage pattern of the pool without the support of a separate boiler.www.buderus.co.uk
