Air curtains add to efficiency of Healthy Living Centre

Contributing to energy efficiency by limiting heat loss through doorways at the Healthy Living Centre in Derbyshire are Dimplex architectural air curtains.

Dimplex ARC architectural air curtains have been installed above doorways to save energy at the new Healthy Living Centre in Staveley, Derbyshire. Their role is to limit heat losses through doorways whilst providing the right design aesthetics for this £8 million cutting-edge building.

The centre incorporates a host of energy-saving technologies and generates up to 40% of its energy requirements from low-carbon sources.

Barrie Midgley of Hurst Group, who worked on the project, says, ‘Dimplex air curtains weren’t originally specified by the consultant, but we realised we needed a product that was not only energy efficient but would be lightweight and good to look at in this statement building. The original air curtains specified were three times heavier than the Dimplex one. In a building of this type with an almost full-glass frontage, that extra weight would mean extra costs for structural support.’

Energy-efficiency features of ARC air curtains include automatic control of heat and fan speed dependent on the number of people passing through the door, adjustable thermostatic operation and links to integrate them with a building-management system.
