DHW interface for district heating
Published:  December 2009
Alfa Laval

Designed for interfacing with district/community heating networks are Alfa Laval AquaFlow and AquaStore (pictured) 2-port tap water heaters. They complement the existing 3- and 4-port models and can deliver large quantities of instantaneous or semi-instantaneous domestic hot water to buildings connected to a district-heating network.

The new 2-port models have maximum operating conditions of 25 bar gauge and 130°C on the primary side and 10 bar gauge and 90°C on the secondary side. Typical operating conditions might be primary hot water from the district-heating network at 110°C with DHW off at about 60°C.

These 2-port units can be self acting (regulated by a thermostat) or controlled electronically. A fail-safe function closes the valves in the event of a power shortage or if the water temperature is too high. Additional controls provide early warning for scaling, thermal treatment and a complete set of temperature programs for different applications.

Every sub-station is designed for plug and play and comes fully assembled and tested — ready for connection to a power supply and piping.
