Data centre chooses Powercall UK’s rapid-response service to provide standby power

Powercall, standby power, standby generator
Powercall UK’s standby-power service has been chosen by DPS Software to provide power for its data centre in the event of a prolonged outage.

DPS Software, a leading provider of case-management and accounting software for solicitors, has chosen Powercall UK’s 24/7 service to ensure that its data centre in Enfield has a standby generator delivered and connected within a target time of an hour and a guaranteed maximum of three hours.

Serving over 600 practices and 15 000 individual users, DPS Software was concerned that a long power cut would lead to critical IT equipment not being able to function and business continuity being affected. There is sufficient UPS capacity on site to power IT equipment for two hours and a number of small generators to provide short-term support to other essential services such as lighting and telecoms.

Scott Ridley, technical director, was concerned that the company would be vulnerable in the event of a prolonged outage. ‘Our UPS systems are our first line of defence, but we felt that we needed to increase the resilience of our contingency plan in order to protect ourselves against prolonged power cuts. We were extremely impressed with Powercall UK’s 24/7 rapid-response service, and felt that it not only provided value for money but also avoided the necessity of purchasing an expensive standby generator.’
