Portsmouth council makes light work of reducing lighting costs
Published: May 2010
Electricity costs for lighting the Isambard Brunel car park in Portsmouth has been nearly halved following the installation of new energy-efficient lamps in existing fittings using the Save It Easy Device from Energys. The reduction in electricity costs is £17 573 a year, representing 87 t of carbon. The car park is open 24 h a day, seven days a week, so it requires lighting around the clock. Using the Save It Easy plug-in device, the council was able to upgrade 520 lamps over the various levels of this multi-storey car park. The 49% reduction in lighting consumption equates to a 45% reduction in carbon footprint. Michael Robinson, deputy parking manager at Portsmouth City Council, says, ‘We expect to achieve project payback in just 11 months.’ For more information on this story, click here: May 10, 85 Related articles: |
