R22 replacement system clocks up five years of energy-saving performance

St Clements Services in Daventry continues to enjoy lower energy bills nearly five years on since the installation an R22 replacement system from Mitsubishi Electric.

One of the first air-conditioning system to have its R22 refrigerant replaced using Mitsubishi Electric’s Replace Multi system continues to deliver lower energy bills nearly five years on. When the owner of a small office block in Daventry was originally looking to replace the cooling-only air conditioning, various options were considered — including an upgrade of the boiler and heating plant. However, after discussion with installer Chillaire and wholesaler Kooltech, St Clements Services chose to replace the old air conditioning with a heating/cooling City Multi Y Series — using what was then new Replace Technology.

The Replace Multi system allowed Chillaire to keep the existing pipework and wiring and update the indoor and outdoor units, whilst removing the R22.

Using the existing pipework significantly reduced the time taken to get the system up and running, enabling the new system to be installed in days rather than weeks. The new system is also more energy efficient.

Chris Wright, chief executive of St Clements, said, ‘The system has met our expectations in full, and we have continued to benefit as a result of the efficiency of the system operating in an age of rising electricity prices.’

St Clements has remained a service contract customer for Chillaire since the installation.

To demonstrate to system owners the benefits of upgrading from R22 air conditioning, Mitsubishi has developed an audit tool that compares the running costs and COPs of modern systems with old, fixed-speed R22 units.
