MHI delivers comfort for new facilities at Bristol Airport

New passenger facilities at Bristol Airport have air-conditioning and energy-recovery ventilation provided by MHI systems.

Air conditioning with energy-recovery ventilation is provided for new pre-boarding and arrivals areas and a 2-storey walkway to Bristol Airport’s terminal building by a 375 kW installation from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). The installation was carried out by Keyplan Engineering with equipment supplied by distributor FM Air Conditioning. The new western walkway eliminates bus transfers for most passengers.

The overall project comprises 20 multi-split systems from the FD Micro Inverter range and 33 SAF fresh-air heat-exchange units. Inverter-controlled compressors automatically meet the precise demands of the indoor units to save energy and reduce temperature fluctuations.

The equipment for the main walkway included 16 outdoor units rated at 20 kW each. They are connected to 31 4-way ceiling cassettes with cooling capacities from 4 to 11.2 kW.

The arrivals area has twin split systems comprising eight 7.1 kW ceiling-suspended indoor units driven by four 14 kW outdoor units.

The ventilation includes 33 fresh-air heat exchangers and a combination of 1000 m3/h and 500 m3/h air-handling units.

The air-conditioning and ventilation systems are linked to the airport’s BMS via a BACnet gateway to provide centralised climate control.
