MHS boilers jigs up a low-energy solution for Highland Archive Centre

Gas-fired boilers and solar -thermal energy work together to meet the heating and hot-water requirements of the recently opened Highland Archive Centre in Inverness. The boilers and solar panels, along with a 300 l stainless-steel water cylinder were all supplied by MHS Boilers for this £10.5 million investment by the Heritage Lottery Fund and The Highland Council. The centre includes an archive conservation unit, ceremony suite and modern office accommodation. There is also a family-history centre for visitors to trace their family tree and cross reference it with the on-site registration service. Specialist controls will safeguard the stored records, which were previously in Edinburgh. There are two Ultramax 500 kW floor-standing condensing boilers and 4 m2 of Auron 20 DF solar vacuum tube collectors. These boilers have two return connections as standard to serve circuits requiring different flow temperatures. They are designed to pass through standard doorways.
