Fujitsu shows its capabilities at Gateway Academy in Essex

Fujitsu, Eurofred, air conditioning

Cooling and heating to provide a more comfortable environment in the extensively used main hall of the Gateway Academy at Chad St Mary in Essex is now provided by Fujitsu split systems. This large hall is used for assemblies, gatherings and drama sessions and shows. It is also used for a church service on Sundays.

Facilities management company BCS Group was called in to advise on how to make conditions in the hall more comfortable and called in FG Eurofred and Fujitsu for help.

Two solutions were suggested, and the school opted for the more cost-competitive option comprising 10 indoor units and 10 outdoor units.

10 wall/ceiling systems providing 12 kW of cooling and 14 kW of heating were installed over the Summer holidays. The indoor units are extremely flexible, offering the option of concealed or open installation in ceilings and are wall mountable. A combination of right/left and up/down directional swing provides 3-dimensional control of air direction. They can be controlled by a wireless remote control or an optional wired remote control.

Because of access problems in the suspended ceilings, the units were installed on the walls beneath existing lighting. Ross Bannister, senior partner with BCS Group, says, ‘The installation went well. The internal units were in place as the term started, and we just had to finish up on the indoor units in the first week.’

At the same time BCS installed a third system in the IT technical workshop, a project that had been specified previously.
