Retailers shop with Parkersell for electrical safety testing

Published:  17 September, 2006

Parkersell’s electrical testing and inspection unit (ETI) has secured significant contracts in the retail sectors. New contracts include shoe retailer Clarks and bookmaker Corals. Existing contracts that have been reinstated include Kwik-Fit and women’s fashion brands Viyella and Jaeger.

Colin Murray, national account manager for Parkersell, puts part of the success of the ETI division to a growing awareness of the importance of testing and compliance in the retail environment. ‘The provision of electrical-compliance testing to these clients demonstrates the increasing levels of commitment to health and safety in the retail environment. Largely because all organisations are increasingly accountable for the health-and-safety aspects of the property, the majority of companies take their responsibilities very seriously. However, compliance to electrical health and safety comes at a cost hat directly hits the bottom line.’

Recognising the financial implications of electrical compliance, Parkersell can work with clients to help them control and regulate their cash flow by offering a 5-year contractual commitment that provides an annual service visit for each site. Inspectors perform a full inspection and test 20% of the installed circuits at each distribution board each year. The result is a complete test of the installation over a 5-year period.

Qualified engineers carry out a 100% visual inspection of installations at the client site to find broken or cracked sockets, damage to cable trunking, missing lids, loose switches, overloaded connection to fuse boards, incorrectly sized fuses, incoming supply cables, correctly marked fuse
