CHP unit lights council flats in Bristol and provides DHW for tenants

As well as meeting nearly all the electricity requirements for lighting in public areas of a 10-storey block of flats in Bristol, a micro CHP system is providing hot water free for the 62 flats. The system was installed by EC Power in Middleford House in the Hartcliffe district of the city and is said to be the first gas-fired system of its kind used by Bristol City Council. It is on target to reduce carbon emissions by 24 t a year. It is the primary source of domestic hot water and provides 80% of the output required. The CHP unit provides 12 kW of the 13 kW electricity requirement for lighting in communal areas, corridors, lifts and community rooms. As a result of the success of this project, Bristol City Council plans to go ahead with other installations. Related articles:
