Calorex is first company to gain new green certification
Published: June 2008
Calorex Heat Pumps has become the first company to gain product certification under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme administered by BRE. The certification is for the Heatseeker air-source heat pump — a small, low-maintenance unit specifically designed for the UK housing market. It operates at low sound levels and heats domestic hot water to 65°C without any supplementary electric heating. It also produces water at 33 to 55°C for space heating. Richard Phillips, scheme manager for BRE Global, says, ‘This is a fantastic new addition to the scheme. We are hoping the scheme will rapidly build a large product base, helping promote the industry and improving consumer choice and confidence.’ This certification scheme provides an independent third-party guarantee that the product and installer meet rigorous manufacturing and installation standards. Certified products and installers are listed on a web site (see below) in a database designed to help specifiers and end users identify products and services that have a lower negative impact on the environment.
