Trane has played a key role in refurbishment work to protect exhibits in the Musée d’Orsay art museum in Paris.

Trane’s 4-year involvement in refurbishment work the Musée d’Orsay art museum in Paris has preserved the sensitive indoor environment crucial to the works of art and provide for the comfort and safety of visitors and staff — with no disturbance to the 3.5 million-plus visitors a year.

As well as reducing energy consumption, the project included preserving the integrity of masterpieces by Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Gauguin and Van Gogh.

The work included replacing four R22 chillers and cooling towers with four Trane RTWD high-efficiency chillers and four custom-built cooling towers in stainless steel. The chilled-water system has a total cooling capacity of 2.3 MW. The cooling towers had to be manoeuvred between two statues for installation on the roof of the Beaux-Arts building.

Trane chiller-plant controls with refrigerant monitoring and leak detection further optimise the system.
