There is underfloor heating at the bottom of Sheffield’s Winter Garden

Winter Garden
Providing the heated environment for around 2500 semi-tropical plants in the award-winning Winter Garden in Sheffield is an underfloor heating system provided by Velta to a brief by Buro Happold. This industrial floor-heating system can deliver up to 250 W/m2 and is specified as part of the floor construction, with the 25 mm-diameter PE-Xa pipe simply being clipped to the steel reinforcing bars of the structure before the concrete is poured. Installed by Velta on behalf of M&E contractor Powerminster, the system covers 1200 m2 of floor. The whole area is controlled from four manifolds in the car park below the garden floor, and heat is provided by hot water from Sheffield’s district-heating scheme.
