Reznor’s Turkish delight

Faced with the requirement to heat full fresh air to around 150°C to heat the Turkish baths at Ironmonger Row in the City of London to about 85°C, Reznor developed a bespoke solution. The building dates from the 1930s and had previously been heated by the original gas boiler, which no longer met current performance requirements. The requirements for the new heating system were for it to fit into an existing space in the basement that was difficult to access, to be capable to producing unusually high temperatures and withstand near-constant use. Two X1075D gas-fired warm-air heaters were brought to site in pieces and assembled in situ. These heaters had to be specially modified to cope with the intense temperatures. Super-heated air is delivered to the first (and hottest) of the three rooms in the Turkish baths — raising its temperature to 80 to 100°C. The heater circulates the air into adjoining rooms, with the temperature gradually falling and finishing at a balmy 50°C in the third room. Tony Vernon of Aquaterra Leisure comments, ‘It is critical that the rooms quickly come up to the required temperature and that it is maintained during opening hours. The Reznor heaters bring the baths up to temperature within five to 10 minutes. The facilities are well used since the new heating system was put in.’
