Moeller equipment performs all distribution and protection functions and was specified and installed by MITIE Engineering Services (Cardiff) working for main contractor Carillion.
The modular switchboard is a fully type-tested assembly with Form 4, Type 2 separation in line with the requirements of BS EN 60439-1 and a fault rating of 50 kA for a second — so the highest levels of operational safety under all conditions are guaranteed.
Outgoing circuits of the switchboard provide feed via the main rises to a 250 A, 3-phase mini panel board accommodated in a riser cupboard on each floor.
These panel boards supply Type A MCB distribution boards in each student flat. They were customised by Moeller to incorporate the landlord’s metering system and a combination of RCBOs and MCBs to provide tamper-proof for all circuits in the room.
Moeller was involved from the earliest stages of the project to develop a technically attractive concept and a safe, efficient final design.
MITIE is now working on the design for another Unite student-accommodation building in Bristol and is proposing to use Moeller distribution equipment.
