Advanced water disinfection

AgCu water treatment
Water disinfection for long periods of time can be achieved using copper/silver units from KK Water Purification.
The controlled use of copper and silver ions to disinfect water is said by KK Water Purification to avoid the biodegrading problems associated with some biocides, to that they become food for micro-organisms. Disinfection is ensured for long periods of time. Ultra-violet disinfection has similar benefits. Silver and copper ions in water are absorbed by bacteria and kill them from the inside. In contrast, oxidising biocides rely on the breakdown of biofilm from the outside causing bacteria to secrete polysaccharides to protect themselves, resulting in a glutinous mass. Systems based on copper and silver have very low maintenance. Disinfection rates can be checked on site, making them suitable for fire-tank and sprinkler installations, general water storage, cooling towers and closed-circuit chiller systems. UV disinfection is suited to humidification circuits, especially adiabatic systems, to control legionella and other micro-organisms. UV destroys the DNA in bacteria, preventing it from reproducing. KK Water recommends filters to increase the effectiveness of disinfection.

New procurement rules for NHS suppliers

New procurement rules mean NHS suppliers will need to demonstrate their green credentials so the NHS can achieve its target of becoming net zero for directly-controlled emissions by 2040, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction in its carbon emissions between 2028 to 2032.
