A Vision in radiant heating

Radiant heaters from AmbiRad’s new Vision range have replaced oil-fired warm-air heating in this steel-products factory in Kingswinford.

AmbiRad Vision radiant-tube heaters have replaced an oil-fed warm-air system in the factory of steel-products manufacturer Troax. Not only do these heaters provide zoned heating in this 3500 m2 high-roof building, but they also control condensation to keep stored steel dry and prevent rust.

This factory at Kingswinford, West Midlands, is divided into four bays. It produces steel partitioning and doors for offices, warehouses and factories. It also has a powder-coating section.

Four VSX radiant-tube heaters were installed in the roof space above two production bays. A herringbone configuration allows flueing straight to atmosphere, eliminating the possibility of condensation building up.

The heaters take less than 30 minutes to bring the working temperature up to 22°C, delivering heat to where people are working — in the lowest 2 m of the building.

Jim Wareham, production manager of Troax, says, ‘With so much steel in stock, it tends to be very cold in the factory. The AmbiRad Vision heaters combat the cold very effectively.
