New monastery opts for wood-chip boiler

A 185 kW wood-chip boiler for a new-build monastery in Yorkshire is delivered to site for installation by Morfitts.

A new monastery in North Yorkshire will be heated by a wood-chip boiler with an output of 185 kW. Specified by Faber Maunsell, consulting engineer for the project, the boiler and its associated fuel system were installed by Morfitts as part of the £925 000 M&E contract for the monastery at Crief Farm at Wass.

Built on a hill-top site, this is the first new-build monastery to be constructed in the country for about 500 years.

John Cundale, mechanical engineer with Morfitts, says, ‘Working on a new monastery is quite unusual, but being asked to source and install an environmentally friendly is less so. As clients seek to reduce their carbon footprint and use alternative sources of energy, our expertise in providing appropriate, sustainable solutions is more and more in demand.’
