The heat-pump route to the Code for Sustainable Homes

Mitsubishi Electric’s Ecodan air-source heat pumps are said to reduce emissions compared with modern gas boilers by up to 50% and lower running costs by about 30%.

Donald Daw, commercial director, explains, ‘We have designed Ecodan to address the need for low-carbon, mass-market home heating. The heat-pump system can be fitted by a qualified plumber. Adding one to a home will immediately help it achieve Level 3 of the Code [for Sustainable Homes] — required by 2010 — which is a 20% reduction in energy use form current Building Regulations, and can also get you a long way towards Level 4.’
