Mark and Lindsay Lilley started Abokado following their honeymoon in Australia, where they found that the fresh smoothies and take-away sushi was like nothing else they could get in London. Ethics and sustainability are very important to Abokado, and the company removed yellow-fin and blue-fin tuna from its menu in 2007 over concern about depleting stocks of these fish.
The same goes for energy use, and Degrees of Comfort installed three Mr Slim 12.5 kW stainless-steel air-conditioning units to deliver stylish comfort energy efficiently. Kevin Rowe, director of Degrees of Comfort, says, ‘The brief for this project was to fit a cost-effective, energy-efficient, contemporary design. The advanced inverter technology in these conditioners means they provide energy savings of up to 70% annually when compared to previous models, and this was an important selling point.’
The units can deliver 13.8 kW of heat and 12.5 kW of cooling with average COPs of 3.41.
This year, Abokado received the Gold Award for Independent Sandwich Bar of the Year, and the company continues to open more shops.
