30-year-old boilers give way to Lochinvar replacements

The refurbishment of the offices of Telford and Wrekin Council in Telford includes replacing 30-year-old cast-iron boilers with energy-efficient Lochinvar condensing boilers.

Cast-iron boilers over 30 years’ old at the headquarters of Telford & Wrekin Council in Shropshire have been replaced with high-efficiency gas-fired CP-M180 [180 kW] condensing boilers from Lochinvar. The four boilers were installed in Darby House as part of an overall refurbishment of the premises to provide space heating for 8000 m2 of offices accommodating 400 staff.

John Withington, a mechanical engineer with the council, said, ‘Our heating system was definitely in need of an upgrade, and we selected Lochinvar’s CP-M because of its reliability, high efficiency, ability to modulate and the low NOx emissions — and the fact that it is also very cost effective.

‘We’ve installed the CP-M before in other council properties, so we have previous experience of its performance.’

The boilers were installed, along with new flue liners into the existing pre-cast concrete while the building was fully occupied and services maintained.
