Standby power at open-air theatre enters new phase

Following the upgrading of the electricity supply to the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, an open-air amphitheatre cut into the granite cliff above Porthcurno near Lands End, Shenton Group has converted the existing standby generator to provide a 3-phase output. The power upgrade meant that the Scorpion single-phase generator supplied by Shenton Group in 2003 could no longer be used, and the theatre did not want to have to buy another generator. Phillip Jackson, manager of the theatre, says, ‘We didn’t want to have to buy another generator, so we contacted Shenton Group to see if it was possible to change it from single- to 3-phase power. The company has always looked after us very well, so we knew we could rely on them, and, needless to say, they didn’t let us down.’ The theatre is also continuing to use the Shenton Group’s Powercare24 service to ensure that the generator is in good working order at all times.
