New building at De Montfort University sets high standards

Pick Everard, Hugh Aston Building, De Montfort University
The recently opened Hugh Aston Building at De Montfort University is on course to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating with a services design by Pick Everard.

Sustainable and energy-efficient building services designed by Pick Everard for the new £35 million Hugh Aston Building at De Montfort University in Leicester have contributed to the building being on target to achieve a BREAM Excellent rating. Where possible, the building has been designed to use natural and hybrid ventilation techniques and sustainable features — including ground-source heat pumps, adiabatic cooling to air-handling units, solar hot-water arrays and daylight-linked lighting.

This 16 000 m2 building houses the Faculty of Business & Law and includes large lecture theatres, classrooms, meeting rooms, academic offices, a mock court room, library and IT facilities. An atrium and winter gardens allow air and natural light into the building.
